  The department below the Creuse is Corrèze, which borders in part on the Dordogne.  Some of the prettiest little villages are to be found on the banks of the Dordogne, where in medieval times thriving trade took place up and down the river.  Turenne was the seat of the independent Marsh lords for more than seven centuries and Tulle is a beautiful town which, like Rome, is set on seven hills.  Of Uzerche, the town of 18 towers, the Englishman Arthur Young said “he who has a house in Uzerche has a castle in the Limousin”
